Brussels With Astrid Regout

Eager for a glimpse into Astrid Regout's life in Brussels, we decided to follow the CEO of Rue Blanche during the last sunny days of September. We discovered that Astrid is the type of woman you want around when you’re figuring out where to go with kids. With a healthy focus on bringing adults together, while keeping the kids happy too, she has been looking for cool places ever since she became a mother. It is not every day that someone offers a simple blueprint for something that’s – let’s face it – not always that simple. Read further and find out Astrid's favourite places in Brussels.

Saint-Gilles Market

We love to eat at the Morrocan stalls.

I live in Saint-Gilles, a municipality of the Brussels-Capital Region, which has a very interesting multicultural identity. That diversity is most beautifully reflected in the stores, restaurants, and food you find here. As a family, we especially enjoy the Saint-Gilles evening market. You can find delicious food stalls, meet friends for a drink, and buy what you need for the week. Perfect with or without kids!

(The evening market is held on the Place Van Meenen, which is a paved square in front of the Saint-Gilles city hall. This building is so impressive that my daughter has a secret phantasy that princesses live in it.)

Batch

Iced coffee for me, latte for my sister, and cookies for the kids.

Batch is a new place I love to have my morning or lunch meetings in the city. Their coffee is delicious. They also offer delicious brunches. Perfect place to go with the kids: next door you have the best playground in town.

Galerie La Patinoire Royale

Kids have a very pure way of looking, it’s fun to experience art with them.

Since we bought our museum pass last year – which affords access to 247 museums in Belgium – we love to go out and visit exhibitions with our kids. As a weekend outing, we especially like La Patinoire Royale, a gallery space located in a beautiful 19th-century building in our district that often organizes interactive exhibitions.

Gelateria Giotto

Always and forever a Stracciatella girl!

If you are looking for the best Ice cream in town, look no further! A favourite where the ice cream is prepared according to the purest Italian traditions. Every month, there are new flavours, and of course, the kids are crazy about it. An insider's tip? Eat it in Parc Tenbosch, an old botanical garden and only a 100 metres walk from Giotto.

Le Kiosque

I'll go for their croque-Monsieur every time!

When I want to be surrounded by trees and have a coffee in peace, I visit Le Kiosque, a café-restaurant located in the heart of the Bois de la Cambre, a magnificent protected natural area. Its green location in the open air makes it the ideal place for the kids to go wild in the woods, while I get to drink my coffee against a backdrop of birds chirping.
